Bawiti, the main town of the Bahariya Oasis, is about 370 km south-west of Cairo — 4.5–5 hours by car. It is the starting point for the Black Desert (south of Bawiti) and the White Desert (further south towards Farafra), which are visited by 4x4 with a local licensed desert operator.
